I play the board...

Hello,

I live in the Netherlands and play texas hold'em in here in the casino. The rake is 5%, and the maximum rake for a game is €15 in a 10-20 game (and also in the 5-10 game).

My question is about a rule. Yesterday I bluffed on the river and got called. I didn't want to show my hand and I said: "I play the board".

I mucked and the rule here is I can play 0 cards, so the other player has to show one card at least higher than the lowest card on the board to win from me. Is this a normal rule? Poker is relatively new here and I don't know if this rule is different in other parts in the world.

When there is a showdown you have to show your both cards to be able to win...

the general rule is the first person to show either can show both of his cards or muck (and forfiet the pot). The second player can then muck if can't beat your hand, or show if he feels like it even if he lost, or he can show both cards and be awarded the pot if he has a better hand.

I don't see how a game will survive a month with that rake. Talk about killing the goose that lays the golden eggs.

It's not completely clear to me what the general rule is. If I muck my hand I cannot win the pot.

If I say "I play the board" do I still have a chance to win the pot without showing my hand?

generally, you must show your hand to win any portion of a pot at showdown -- even if neither of your cards play. If you are required to show first and muck your hand, the hand is typically awarded to the other player (regardless of whether or not he shows his hand).

U will go busto in couple of months with that rake and i am god damn serious. This is legal robbing. Who play in that game is the most idiot morons known to man. I am sorry for being a bit harsh but, it is realy so so so stupid.

The rake is high but I can survive it. Some opponents are very good (about 2 at one table including myself :-)), 6 normal players, and occasionally one or two raising-stations or calling-stations.

Isn't this a pretty good result?

It's an average of 40 (so 2 BB's an hour) since I started. For the last 10 and 15 times it's 5 of 6 BB's an hour.
