1 fold, Hero raises, 1 fold, SB calls, BB calls.

Flop: (6 SB) 8[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], 9[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], 5[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (3 players)
SB bets, BB folds, Hero calls.

Turn: (4 BB) 8[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (2 players)
SB checks, Hero checks.

Bet that turn. So often he is giving up here. On the river, I don't know if the pot is big enough to be investing 2 BB; I just don't think we win often enough. It might be close though.

I think often he has a straight or flush draw, so by checking through you are giving him a free card when he could have as many as 15 outs. By betting the turn, you can charge his draws, and then check behind the river and win a fair amount of the time.

Also, the fact that he has played preflop and the flop the way he did, he probably is not too good, and could have utter junk that he is done messing around with.

It could also easily be trips going for a turn check-raise. This puts in a really tough spot.

Although people do pull this move, I don't think it happens with a huge frequency. On top of that, I don't think that is a tough spot. If he check raises us, I think it is a rather easy fold. I think a much tougher spot is when we check the turn, and induce a bluff on the river, and then we don't exactly know what to do with our mediocre hand.

Hmm, I don't like this spot because of the pot size and his river bet probably isn't a bluff, because he would think the ace helped you normally.

ie., same reasons you bluffed the ace are the reasons he's not bluffing the river, and you're getting called here.

He'd bet the turn with a 5.

If I had to guess, I'd say he fancy played an 8.
