interesting article about internet gambling bill
From the NY Times:
[ QUOTE ] The Poker Players Alliance, a relatively new player on the Hill, and others that would be affected by a ban point to big-money interests like horse racing that are is not covered under the proposal. The bill, said Michael Bolcerek, an amateur player who is president of the alliance, is "picking winners and losers." Celebrity players have even dealt a few hands to lawmakers in an effort to show that poker is a game of skill, not chance, a critical legal distinction in the debate. Mr. Leach said the poker players offered a fairly persuasive argument. But he added that he still believed that there were no social benefit and few "happy aspects" to Internet gambling. Not only can gambling be addictive, with debts racked up quickly online, Mr. Leach said, but from a moral standpoint, gambling also breaks apart families and poses a danger to under-age players. Re: interesting article about internet gambling bill
It's good to see some of the major newspapers discussing this issue. It makes these clowns look more and more foolish:
i did like this paragraph: "The odds of a bill's becoming law this year appear long. Beyond that, nearly everyone agrees that online betting may be unstoppable because of the reach of the Internet and the difficulty in regulating its activity." And of course this quote tells us alot about the proponents of the bill: "Mr. Leach pointed to the coalition of supporters for the bills, including churches that represent many denominations, like Christian fundamentalists, that tend to have a consensus on little else." |

Re: interesting article about internet gambling bill
It is amazing that they cannot even see what is right in front of their faces!
If they succeed in banning all online gambling they will bring about specifically the things they claim they are desiring to avoid. Online Poker and sports betting, etc. will be driven underground/"into the shadows" and then we REALLY will have a problem with "Our children" gaining access to it. Answer me this Leach-head? How is a child going to deposit money if he doesn't have a Bank Account or Credit Card? You need those to get E-cash to be able to play online...Online accounts aren't magically funded by 15 year olds who are whizzes on computers...they need money and a means to deposit (they can't put their Piggy Banks in the mail to Costa Rica to fund their accounts that way, and even then it'd only be about 50 bucks tops...lol) And problem gamblers must deposit and re-deposit again and again to lose a lot of money...A lot of the good sites have 400-500$ daily deposit limits for new players, and the (good sites) monitor for any compulsive behavior and put holds on customer's accounts if they begin to demonstrate this behavior... The bottom line: Online gambling/gaming HAS THE POTENTIAL to be much more safe and regulated than any B & M Casino EVER could be, and you, Mr. Leach, are standing directly in the way of this, that which you claim to be your goal. YOU MAKE ME SICK! |

Re: interesting article about internet gambling bill
I just thought of an apt analogy...
Do we give our kids condoms (or make them readily available in stores)? Or do we just "ban" sex? lol They are trying to make sex illegal, but all of the horny young kids (responsible online-gambling adults in our analogy) are going to be humping each other like crazed rabbits irregardless... |
