And the rich get richer
A very small rant about the PPT. I haven't watched the first show that aired last night but I heard an interview with Mark Seif where he explained the rules of the PPT. First off it is by invitation only and all the events are free-rolls. So basicly the best and richests players in the world are invited to play in an exclusive poker game for free where they can win major bucks. I remember hearing more than one TV announcer saying that in poker a amature can put up his buy-in and sit at the table with the world's best unlike the PGA where who among us could play with Tiger Woods? I just think it is wrong and that is my 2 cents. |

Re: And the rich get richer
Why is it wrong? PPT puts up the prize money. They can do what they want. So not EVERY single poker tournament on the planet is open to everyone. How unfair.

Challenge Phil Ivey to a 100K 7-stud freeze out. I'll bet he'll play with you just because you're a fan and he doesn't want to be elitest.

Re: And the rich get richer
Saw the first episode last night. It was better TV than the WPT.
Play some good cards, get recognized as a damn good player and you can play in the PPT next year. Anyone can play, you just can't buy your way in, you have to play your way in. |

OK I just watched the show. (I love TIVO) and you guys are right it is entertaining poker and KingGeorgeC is correct in saying: "Anyone can play, you just can't buy your way in, you have to play your way in. "
Therefore I am putting my soap box away and withdrawing my rant ;-) |

Then accomplish enough in your poker life where you get invited to these tournaments. Problem solved. |

Re: And the rich get richer
Maybe its just me, but I would much rather watch a table of professionals then a table of amatuers any day.
With the exception of the commentators, I prefer the PPT over the WPT hands down. |

Re: And the rich get richer
Only 6 were going to make any money, and I think it was only 5 at the first PPT event at Foxwoods. Also, WPTE and the host casino could put up to 18 additional players combined as exemptions into the field. This will explain why someone no one ever heard of makes the final table at the 2nd PPT event.

But why bother to do the research, or even watch the show, when you can just whine in prose that'd make a second-grader cry? |
