Default Overbets

Villan is probably a donk, not a regular anyway.

Party Poker
No Limit Holdem Ring game
Blinds: $2/$4
6 players
Converter

Stack sizes:
UTG: $496.24
Hero: $483.60
CO: $221.32
Button: $516.60
SB: $438.40
BB: $200

Pre-flop: (6 players) Hero is UTG+1 with Q[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] Q[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]
UTG calls, Hero raises to $18, CO calls, 3 folds, UTG calls.

Flop: 2[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 7[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 7[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] ($60, 3 players)
UTG checks, Hero bets $40, CO folds, UTG raises to $80, Hero calls.

Turn: 5[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] ($220, 2 players)
UTG is all-in $398.24

Reasons for calling are if he has me beat he's very likely to want to slowplay and get value esp if hes bad, which is almost awlays the case when fish get AA/KK.

Also a lot more often it seems these overbets are 'I dont want a caller' instead of 'I have the nuts, so I'll try to look like I'm bluffing'.

Yup, that right there is pretty much why I make those sorts of bets with a good 7 or better.

I'll expand...

He's representing massive power here. He min-check raised you on the flop and way overbet the turn. That to me is screaming "I have a huge hand but want my opponent to think I'm simply trying to buy the pot so he'll look me up with any pair and maybe something like AK."

I would pretty much never run a bluff like this. It's an idiot's bluff. Most players aren't smart enough to fold a hand like QQ to it.

Well I went with my instinct on this one, the flop raise seemed odd, not many hands with a 7 limp-call UTG. So I didn't give him credit for a 7. I thought he could have a big range of PPs, attacking my cbet.

The turn was suspicious because before he pushes he had to think what hands I might have that will call, on such a rag board when I've shown no real strength ( so why would he overbet the nuts?). This and the fact that the pot was quite big makes this look a lot like a bluff to me.

Lucky you, villain's an idiot.

FWIW, I just hope you don't mistake results for correct play. You're gonna be beat when you make this call probably 90% of the time.
