Default What are some good ways to look busy at work?

I need some new tricks to look like I'm doing something without actually doing something. Here are some I use:

1) Whenever walking around offices, walk a little faster than normal pace. Makes it look like you got a purpose.

2) In addition to #1, always be carrying something. A binder, a clipboard, whatever as long as its work related.

3) If you see a boss approaching, always open the most complicated program you have preferably Excel or greater.

4) Begin your lunch right when the boss begins theres, that way you can stay out longer and he'll assume you left during the tail end of his lunch.

OTHERS?

Related to #2, always keep work related papers, reports, etc on your desk, opened as if being read.

When I was in training at my last job (eg, reading lots of manuals, SOPs, and online documents) I found a copy of Harry Potter #5 in pdf format on the internet. Heaven

when i used to face my boss at our desks, i used to use the george castanza method of looking annoyed at all times. whenver you're reading anything on your computer (2+2 or whatever) i'd just squint a bit, so it looks like i'm really into what i'm doing.

course i've also taken naps under my desk, ala castanza.

My favorite trick (one that I didn't invent) is to take a screen shot of your desktop with a bunch of applications open and use it as your wallpaper. You're always looking busy if your boss stops by and you're away from your desk for awhile.

Why work when you can spend just as much energy pretending to be working? That way you can really stick it to the man!

You forgot about leaving your car at work so it looks like you're the first one there in the morning and the last one to leave at night.
