Default Colin Montgomery

Been watching a lot of the US Open today, and the announcers have been talking a lot about Monty and how he has had a pretty crappy past several years. They said he was suffering from personal problems, and lots of golf fans were heckling him and the such. Just wondering what his problems were and why people were giving him such a hard time?

His wife not only left him, but apparently she gave the British press a bunch of fodder, saying Monty was a boring guy, never wanted to have fun, never noticed she was gone, and such... add to that all his near-misses at the majors.

LOL ... Berman just said Monty has rabbit after crowd heckled him after missing less than 10 foot birdie putt. Others in the gallery tried to pump him back up though.

Apart from his divorce, his game fell apart. Then one tournament over in Asia, he came back, but there was quesitons about whether he broke a rule and the win was illegitemate.

He gets heckled because he is just the type of guy Joe Sixpack loves to hate. He represented everything about golf that was overly proper and seemingly aloof and condescending to Joe sixpack. Also, for a while in the 90's and early part of this decade he was the best player from Europe and the leader of their Ryder Cup teams. He was also known to be sensitive to heckling. Hence the fans coming after him. It used to be pretty bad, but the way things have gone with his game and life lately he gets more pity now than hate. Hence you get the few holdouts who still heckle, and the other fans who cheer him on because they now remember what a competitor he was back then and they miss it even though tehy really miss cheering against him.
