Terrible job (min wage restaurant, LONG)
So I'm 19, going into my sophomore year of college. I'm back in my hometown this summer and I had a lot of trouble finding a job. I finally found one waiting tables at a restaurant. I had considered an internship but the only ones I found were unpaid, and I kinda wanted to make some money.
I have worked in restaurants throughout high school. I can sort of tell how decent the restaurants are as far as making money. I can immediately tell that this is a [censored] job (payrate wise). I am, as a waiter, not even making 10/hr. I've had jobs as hosts\bussers where I've cleared much more than that , and those jobs tend to pay less. So that, along with a 25 min drive to work, $1.50 for parking\day has me hating this job very fast. Will it hurt my future to just drop this job? I don't plan on working jobs like this full time, I'll have a degree in a few years, but I wouldn't mind doing restaurants to keep money flowing during the summer (playing a sport at college, so have no time to work during the year). It feels so wrong to me to jsut tell them I'm quiting right away. PS - I wouldn't quit right away, but I'd probably quit within a month as opposed to the 2.5 months I was originally going to be giving them. Would just shoot for 1,000 instead of ~3,000 dollars for the summer. Cliffnotes: Will it hurt my future to just drop this job? PPS - I suck at poker so won't be making $ there. |

Do whatever you want. Just leave it off your resume and future job applications.

Are you serious? You can't figure this out yourself?

"Will it hurt my future to just drop this job?" No it won't.
I'd be a man and work through whatever I was scheduled that week though. I had a similar situation where I worked for a day and called the dude the next day to tell him I wouldn't be back. |

2 weeks notice is standard in the US for leaving a job. Give them the notice and you will have nothing to worry about.
Or you could just never show up again. It's not like they are going to put a black mark on you "permanent record." |

Re: Terrible job (min wage restaurant, LONG)
I guess I already knew the answer.
I wasn't really 100% sure what future employers would look at. All current jobs (read: the [censored]\temporary ones that I am eligible for) say that they call your previous employer to ensure that you aren't a [censored] up. I guess it was just some part of me feeling [censored] about just leaving right away. |
