Default Travel- 4-5 weeks, $3,000 or less, where should I go?

I'm open to suggestions, I don't mind living cheap. Probably going with one friend.

We're not 21.

My place. I'll let you sleep on the couch, eat my left overs, and you can gamble with me. I'll do the deal for $2850, but you have to buy me a new pair of shoes.

Thailand.

This an excellent answer. Plenty to do for a month but you can also throw in some Laos or Vietnam at the same time if you want.

If you go to Europe on that Budget you'll spend most of your time feeling broke.

just to fly to thailand is going to be nearly $2k. you need to go somewhere closer. costa rica might be doable for $3k.

You haven't included nearly enough information in the original post for us to be helpful to you. Is the possible friend female? Are you looking to get laid? High? Do you want to do some boring intellectual crap like looking at paintings? Do you just want to relax? Do you want adventure?

If you have a very flexible schedule, here's what you can do to save a ton of money. There's places (you can find them in your phone book / ask around) that you say 'listen, I want to go to cuba / wherever within the next week or two'. They'll call you up five hours before the flight, you drive down and go. It might be a crappy time when you're half asleep; whatever. It'll cost you like $600 each for a week at an all inclusive resort; probably less so for 3 or 4 weeks.

I'm going to Argentina for two weeks in August. I got a buddy studying abroad there. The plane tickets are gonna cost you $1k, but once you get there, everything is cheap. I plan to spend around a week in Buenos Aires and the rest of the time hiking along the Andes, camping, skiing, fishing, and other random outdoor activities. Hit me up if your interested.
