Default Keeping AIM Name Secret

What is the deal with this. I really don't understand at all why people care if their AIM screen name is a secret or not. This especially means like if I ask a friend for their friend's AIM a typical response is "k sure man let me just check with him to see if it's cool". COME ON, lighten up this is AIM we're talking about. I've posted my AIM on 2+2 a few times which most people would get real pissed about because "so many people would bug them." I've gotten IMs but not a terrible onslaught that is unmanagable. I can either not respond, block them, or say "sorry don't want to talk to you". Not hard in the least.

I didn't vote because I don't use AIM or anything else. I don't understand you kids these days. I would think that AIM popping up every now and again would be annoying as hell. I hate speaking on the phone, but AIM seems worse.

No, unless it's a super top secret one only for special people.

I don't care about mine (GOBBOBOYPLUS) but other people care, so I ask them and tell them I'm giving it to someone before just handing it over.

On a related now someone told me that when you get a girls phone number you should call her right away so she has your name in her phonebook. Cause girls don't answer calls from unkown callers. I mean, I guess I'm not as popular as them or something cause I don't really have a problem with answering all my phone calls and then for the very rare one I don't want saying bye quickly.

AIM is definitely way better than a phone in this regard.

Women generally tend to fear the unknown to a much greater degree than men. Probably because it's much more dangerous to be a woman in this world than it is to be a man. This practice probably has some practical safety value to it in addition to over cautiousness caused by the fear of the unknown.
