Thinking of buying an apartment in NYC - any advice??
Know it can be a nightmare and everything is incredibly expensive but think I might be willing to take the plunge.

Re: Thinking of buying an apartment in NYC - any advice??
Upcoming thread in a nutshell:
Evan: I go to NYU. Perhaps you can live in a dorm with me. OMG LOST. JBB: If you come to live here, call me cuz we can fly by Barcade and then watch 8th and Ocean together. El Diablo: FWIW, you have no chance. Only wealthy Indian men with thick members can gain access to the city. Check out Nobu, though. turnipmonster: You can live in Grimaldi's. The DaveR: I'm Asian and I work in Bryant Park. I will probably see you and move to the other side of the street. P.S.: Aiya. |

Have heard it's a great time, etc. (and that there are apparently lots of girls there, which I have a hard time believing as it's basically a videogame bar). Sick of the same old places, but it's hard to get people out of Manhattan to Williamsburg.... |

Re: Thinking of buying an apartment in NYC - any advice??
my experience was not too bad, just don't expect to close when the seller says (closing was 4 months after the seller initially scheduled), and make sure you know what you're getting into.

[/ QUOTE ] Thx - so I guess it was an older place that took awhile for existing tenants to leave. I guess I'm worried about all the extra stuff that goes into the process like closing costs, maintenance and tax abatements, etc. You can get really screwed with those from what I hear. Right now I'm looking at a lot of new stuff that's either way downtown or in Williamsburg which gives you the best deals but obviously sucks for someone commuting to Midtown. Geez - still no color on Barcade.... |
