What is the 4th best poker room in AC?
Heading down to AC next week, and looking for some variety.
What is the best poker room besides to obvious big three (Taj, Trop, Borg)? I know I can find 1/2 NL anywhere...I'm looking for other games. Limit HE above 3/6, any Stud, any Omaha, any Tournaments. Recommendations? |

Re: What is the 4th best poker room in AC?
I like the Harrahs room. Not a lot of tables (maybe 10-12). They always have two 1/2 NL games, a 2-4, and usually a 3-6 or 5-10 and stud game going. Plus SNGs.

Re: What is the 4th best poker room in AC?
I would have said showboat but the new smoking laws are killing them due to their location (too far away from the gaming floor where smoking is still legal). other casinos are still reasonably close to the slot machines for quick puff breaks.
I don't smoke personally, but apparently half of my potential competition does, judging by the (lack of) action this weekend. so I would say 4th is Harrah's, maybe Caesars a close tie. |

Harrah's definitely gets my vote.
samjones, I'd estimate more like 14-16 tables iirc. |

(lack of) action this weekend. [/ QUOTE ] I'm not an AC regular by any means, but I went to the Showboat for the second time at like 2 am Sunday night/Monday morning and was surprised that they had only one $1-2 NL game going. That was it. Pity, it's a nice room. Also I have to wonder if Harrah's wouldn't be wiser to concentrate their AC poker rooms in one. |

Re: What is the 4th best poker room in AC?
from what I could gather from talking with the dealers and the few regulars at the showboat, they are currently screwed because the NJ law now states that smoking is only allowed on the live gaming floor (what I call the "ugly carpet" areas). in all the other casinos, the poker room is just outside either the main casino area, or near the exit to the street, so it's not a big deal. but if you're in the house of blues, you have to go out of the room, walk at least 100 yards to either end of the hotel building, and then take a long escalator down, and then do the whole thing backwards, just to take a 5 minute smoke.
I guess what I didn't realize was that a significant percentage of poker players (I'd estimate 1/3 to 1/2 based on the showboat defections) leave every few orbits or so not necessarily just to go to the bathroom, but to say what's up to the marlboro man. if that is indeed the case, then an already underperforming room like the showboat is in big big trouble. my suggestion would be to find a way to insert a few slot machines in the hallway on the 2nd floor which would be legal to smoke from a short distance, or to build an outdoor balcony onto one of the fire exits. that or drill a hole in the middle of the poker room and install a firemans pole going directly down to the slot floor... |

[/ QUOTE ] There is a bank of elevators very close to the poker room that would lead you to the first floor a lot quicker than the escalator would, but you would still have to wait for an elevator. Maybe NJ is correct to be worried about outright banning smoking in the gaming areas as well. The Showboat room is very nice, it is a shame it is not doing well. |
