Re: Small Pairs Limping UTG
this is a bad poll. Its obvious thats it +EV to limp, the question is raising moer +EV or not?

Re: Small Pairs Limping UTG
Leak, IMO. The hands most eager to pay you off when you hit your small set (big pairs and AK) are likely to reraise you right out of the hand. Better to let them raise and maybe drag along another caller or two. Then set or fold the flop UTG for 22-77.
M P.S. FWIW, I am a full ring NL100 player. |

Re: Small Pairs Limping UTG
for me it depends on the field size and table texture.
sometimes the whole table is limpy and i can get 5:1 by joining in, othertimes its just me and two other really agro players and ill drop it because i dont want to be caught in a reraise battle preflop |

Re: Small Pairs Limping UTG
Depends on the table for me too as well as what I've been doing recently (in the last few orbits). If I'm showing down solid hands all the time or people are folding to my c-bets often, I'll be much more likely to raise something like 55 from UTG.
If my image is somewhat weak (laying down a lot post-flop), I'll probably limp, or even fold if it's really bad like 33 in a table with a bunch of aggression (very good chance it'll get re-raised). Overall I think it's +EV. Small pocket pairs are a pretty big winner for me, they don't win often, but when they do win it's a large pot more often than not. Edit: Oops, this is full ring. |

Re: Small Pairs Limping UTG
Umm.. if you limp a small pair, getting raised behind by a big pair is not a bad thing at all. The problem is if you will get raised behind by something worse than a big pair, such as another small pair or a suited connector, etc. something which you will not stack even if you hit a set.
Against nits who only raise big pairs, limping small pockets is perfect. Against good LAGs who will raise with lots of junk but not pay off, limping small pockets is bad. |

Re: Small Pairs Limping UTG
Hm... How can limping UTG w/ low pair profitable in 6max? If the table is that passive i doubt how much u make after the flop...

Re: Small Pairs Limping UTG
Nice post cbloom.
I'll often limp them and call or fold to a raise depending on a number of factors, including stacks, who's in the hand, size of the raise, time of the day, etc. |
