I have this site of poker coaches bookmarked: http://www.btinternet.com/~treeny/
But I don't see any who specialize in heads up. I don't have pipe dreams of winning the WSOP or winning $1000 heads up SNGs. My goal is to be able to play heads up and average $20 an hour, that's it. So all I'd need is a coach who is able to dominate low level poker ($5-$20 heads up?). Someone who could watch me play and look for my flaws, which I don't see but my bankroll says otherwise. So are there any coaches who know a lot about NL tourney style heads up SNGs? A response from one or a link to one would be helpful. |

To average $20/hour you have to play at least the $31.50's maybe even the $52.50's.
You can play about 4 tourneys an hour, and if you win 3/5 then at the $31.50's you are making ~$18/hour. I am not a coach, nor a heads up specialist persay, but I have played about 200 matchups between the $11's and the $52.50's in the last month. Almost all were NLHE, except for about 10 PLO8, and 1 razz. [Also, 4 matches at the $105's which I am unfortunately 1-3, so I quit them.] How would coaching work? It is not like you can watch 1 or 2 matches and see. You have to play different versus each opponent. Also, you often have to change the way you are playing midmatch. |

Biceps, I'm not sure what site you play on but I mainly play on a lesser known site (Golden Palace). These heads up games are much softer than on other sites. I currently have a win rate of 52% at the $20 level and I'll be the first to admit I suck at heads up. I recently just started playing them, diving in blind with no information to go on. If I can win 52% of the time (which seems to equal a very slow loss of money) with nothing to guide me on how to play but my normal poker instincts then I know with a few pointers I can get it up to 60% or so.
Again this site is very soft for heads up. My win rate is under 25% on some of the other sites I've tried so I know my strategy must be flawed. How would coaching work? Well since every heads up match is situation and opponent dependent a coach clearly wouldn't be able to teach you everything. But what he could do is find some of the major holes that apply towards a general type of player, the types of flaws a player like me makes consistantly without realizing it. Granted the specifics couldn't be taught but general knowledge could. Just like when someone posts certain hands on these forums and other members respond by saying what they would have done differently and why, a coach could do the same thing. Except they'd watch you over a period of time, looking for REPEATED mistakes. If I'm not winning against tough opponents then there has to be some major flaws, things an experienced player could pick up quickly. Of course this is just all in my mind. In my eyes it seems plausible, though not quite as effective as normal coaching. But I may be wrong. |
