Re: Anyone know a good book on poker history?
James McManus has a new book coming out in the fall that meets your needs. Also contact the Gamblers Bookstore in Vegas, they may be able to advise you.

Re: Anyone know a good book on poker history?
These books don't cover the whole of poker history, but are very interesting for any poker fans, Champion of Champions(Johnny Moss Bio, available at gambler's bookshop) and The Biggest game in Town by Al Alvarez. Stu Ungar's bio "One of a Kind" was a great read as well.

Re: Anyone know a good book on poker history?
If you're interested in the early history and development of the game, David Partlett's A History of Card Games, is the only reliable source (he covers most of the material in his newer book, The A-Z of Card Games). Most of what you read is wrong, John Scarne in particular made up a lot of nonsense (he also claimed to have "exposed" blackjack card counting as a myth "riddled with mathematical errors).
