Default Help me find cheaper health insurance

I'm living in Costa Rica and paying $140 a month for Blue Cross/Blue Shield heath insurance. I'm 27, single, non smoker and just wondering if there is a better plan. I basically only have it in case something terrible happens because I can't really use it in Costa Rica for regular doctor visits and all that good stuff. Any ideas?

I pay $75 a month for a Blue Cross HMO plan in which I pick up 40% of my medical costs. You could get a PPO which would be even cheaper. You only cover over 40% up to a certain amount so if something catastrophic happens, such as liver failure, you will be fine.

If it's only for catastrophes just ramp the deductible sky-high.

I have a PPO with a Health Savings Account through John Alden. $5200/year deductible.. pay about $50 a month premium. Contributions to the HSA are tax deductible.

I think CIMA takes Blue Cross/Blue Shield, don't they? Or is that just for larger things, as opposed to regular doctor visits?

You don't need health insurance in Costa Rica. I thought the government took care of that. I've been researching moving there and everyone that I've spoken to living there says not to get it.

There is public health care here that you can get for free, but you wouldn't want to use it. The lines are interminable and the quality is lower than private care. The private hospitals are as good as anything you'll find in North America, if not better (no lines, no waiting). I've never been to one of the public hospitals yet on the recommendation of every Costa Rican I know.

I checked on the net found it to be easier. So for those who are in a similar situation as with you, go online when shopping for insurance... The place I went to is http://www.insurancepaylite.com They were able to give a quote that was acceptable to me in the speediest time. Anyways hopes this helps you.
