pick me an elective
i am a 4th year bio-psych student going into fourth year and am only taking 3 courses this semester (recovery from surgery, taking it easy). I only have 2 courses selected, and need a 3rd. I am considering game theory as my 3rd course. Not because I expect to get better at poker, just because that stuff interests me. I am still not sure if this would be the best elective. Any other suggestions?
I am considering a philosophy, geography, religion, as possiblilities instead, though am not sure. Any thoughts OOT? |

Re: pick me an elective
besidse biology and psych, a 2 physics, 3 courses chem, 3 economics, no politics or religion, 1 year math and some 2nd year statistics. One philosophy course.
Game theory, religion, poliitcs, philosohpy all interest me. So do physics and chem but any courses from now on become more detailed and that isnt as exciting to me. |

Re: pick me an elective
I took game theory last year. I was actually quite disappointed. Personally, I didn't find it as interesting as I'd hoped. I think it might have been the games that we analysed. Any sufficiently complicated game becomes unbelievably complicated to study game theoretically. So you end up looking at pretty simple games. It's neat what you learn about them, but it's not as thrilling as I expected it to be. Given the choice, however, I would take it again.
Oh... there's a lot of linear algebra in it (something I could never stand). I've taken a bunch of philosophy classes. They can be fun. From my experience, the usual class has you learn people's theories about whatever, and you're marked on essays you write about certain topics/theories related to the class. What's really irritating about them, though, is that I find there's always an idiot (or two) in the class that tries to argue with the prof about some hardly debatable point. And s/he usually argues at least once per class. I don't know about religion and politics... |

Re: pick me an elective
Take an intro PoliSci course. It's an election semester, which always makes it interesting. You won't get this chance again.

[/ QUOTE ] better yet, skip the intro course and take a 200 level class that the professor won't be sleeping through. i took an intro level poli sci class as a senior b/c I needed it for my major and couldn't get it waved. Seriously, so awful to listen to the idiots who take that plus the professor not caring. So awful. OP: Take an art history course and proceed to bang many art history bitches. Come on. You're a senior, you should know this. NT |
