"So apparently this is given to kids who are about to enter PRIMARY school in Russia. I couldnt solve it....
8809 = 6 7111 = 0 2172 = 0 6666 = 4 1111 = 0 3213 = 0 7662 = 2 9312 = 1 0000 = 4 2222 = 0 3333 = 0 5555 = 0 8193 = 3 8096 = 5 7777 = 0 9999 = 4 7756 = 1 6855 = 3 9881 = 5 5531 = 0 2581 = ?" I got it in like 10 seconds for some reason. I can definitely see how it just wouldn't "click" for some people though. I guess you have to be thinking along certain lines.

Answer in white, no it's not "?"
Yes, answer is 2, that's exactly how I got it too. Assigning points to #s. Apparently though, it's counting the # of holes in each #. LDO. |

My answer in white: you get one point for every closed circle in a digit. i.e. an "8" has two circles while a 6 or a 9 have only one. No other digits have enclosed circles. This from a guy who always colors in the circles for 0,6,and 9 when he is bored in meetings. |

It's a VERY big clue to be told that it's a problem that young children can solve. That stops you from wasting time on all sorts of complicated patterns, to know that even simple multiplication is unlikely to be needed.
The fact that "4" does not appear in any of the examples given is also, in a way, a clue. |
