Boxing bets, what to look for.
I am an admitted noob to sports betting but I love boxing. When looking at betting on fights what is most important. Obv physical sorts of things, but are there other intangibles that you need to be aware of to have an edge on this?

Re: Boxing bets, what to look for.
Glad to have another boxing fan on this board and look forward to you contribution to boxing threads.
So to answer your original questions: "Styles makes fights" Some fighters' fighting style can be kryptonite to other fighters. Case in point Winky Wright/Tito Trinidad. There are a lot things to consider when analyzing a fight. Be sure to check weight class movement. That and a quality fighting record vs. a imflated one. Here is a good bet for tonight. Veron Forest at -171 against Carlos Baldomir, but an even better bet is Forest to win by DEC at +102. Baldomir is on tough fighter to KO (only KO'ed once in 59 fights. Forrest is not much of a KO to begin with and shoulder surgery doesn't help Forrest's power any. Forrest is too fast for Baldomir and 5 inches taller with a longer reach too. Forrest's last fight against Ike Quartey is a good sign his skill are returning. But the BEST BET on the card is the OVER at -261. Baldomir is not a KO fighter and damn near a stone head when it comes to taking a punch. The only thing I would worry about is a possible cut from a clash of heads. Baldomir likes to stick his huge head in and Forrest being the taller fighter might get caught from an inadvertant Baldomir headbutt. Enjoy the fights Tuds |

Re: Boxing bets, what to look for.
also in the big fights try to gauge how much the fight would mean to the boxer and his career...most fights its null but sometimes it's totally the reason why one boxer who would seemingly dominate the other gets beaten.

[/ QUOTE ] I wouldn't put a whole lot of faith in this aspect. There have been many spoilers in the last few years. Baldomir was supposed to be a tune-up for Zab before Mayweather and even Gatti had a fight big pay day lined-up with Chavez Jr. if he could have beaten Gomez. This is something to keep in mind when analyzing a fight, but if you are betting strictly on this aspect of the fight you will lose a lot more times then you win. If you can try to watch a boxers last few fights and analyze his opponet in each of those fights. See what the opponet does good and bad. It like the old saying "If you want to learn about the Owl study the mouse". Hope that makes a little sense. If you know and understand boxing you'll be able to see things by watching previous fights. UPDATE: Forrest by DEC is at +116 on Pinny. Baldomir uses size differnce against most opponets, but Forrest have fought at 154 his last few fights. While Baldomir will be moving up in weight to fight Forrest. Tuds |
