Default The insanely evil floor person

There used to be this supervisor at Greektown who terrorized the poker room. He was so bad p/r wise they axed him. My relationship with him started out with the following incident:

The waiting time is approx 4 hours. I call in early. I arrive, check in, and wait until my time comes up. I am eagerly standing by a table of my game with two empty seats. The supervisor is no where to be found. The other players urge me to take a seat. I resist, then when the dealer encourages me to, I decide to sit down.

The supervisor then arrives at the podium, calls one name and then mine, only to find the two of us already seated at the table. He races over to the table, asking me, "Who sat you???" to which I stumbled, "err, uh, um, they did." He pulled me off the game, and informed me that I would be put at the bottom of the list. I protested, as this surely meant another four hours of waiting. The other players spoke up that they had encouraged me to sit down. All to no avail. He even got out a copy of the rules and showed us all how it clearly states a player should not take his seat unless instructed to by a floorperson.

Trip report: my day ruined.

My father and I complain to the big boss who goes on to reprimand this supervisor for improper dealing with people, and he becomes irate at me for causing him problems in his job which is so concerned about doing well and to the letter. This, in turn, causes him to "forget to put me down" when I call in, "accidently" erase my name, and get me for whatever little formality he can find.

Thankfully for the whole poker room of Greektown, this impudent little sob was fired and we no longer have to deal with him.

I havent had to deal with a floorperson like this in a long while, except the other night at MCC I had a little run-in with a lady. I'm having trouble with this one because I cant figure out whether she is just so incompetent or actually malevolent.

The first incident occurred as follows: my name is first on the list. She is working the podium. I am sitting at a slot machine a few feet away. I hear the 2nd persons name called for a game. I run up to the podium. "Hey, wait I was first," to which she says with a weird smile, "I already called you sir, you're lucky you came up I was about to roll you to the bottom of the list. I'll let it slide this time." WTF?!?! I say to myself. I'm sure she did not call my name. Had I not been paying attention, she probably would have erased my name claiming to have already announced it.

So I let this incident slide, although I am irked by it. I cant help thinking she was intentionally trying to skip by me so that I could be put on the bottom of the list.

A few weeks later I am playing, leave to go to dinner on the Pokerpro, press sit-out and get up to go eat. I call my friend on the cell-phone as soon as I get up, at 9:15. I go to the buffet, come back, and she has pulled my place off of the game. She runs up to me and says, "Sir, you have been gone way to long, an hour and a half, so I pulled you off the game." Confused and annoyed I wonder WTF has happened, as I never take longer than an hour and I have a good internal time clock. She proceeds to tell me she will put me on the bottom of the list and that she has been here a full two hours and what not. I am totally confused as I know I have not been gone two hours. I look at my phone to see that I only called my friend a half hour ago. I ask her to look but she wont hear any arguments and she is done with it.

Now I am steaming, and beginning to think something is wrong with this woman, having no judgement of time and no reason to take personal issue with me. I start to shout at her, which draws the attention of the entire room, as I am hardly even driven to anger. I leave the podium in disgust, take the issue up with the big boss who is extremely kind, fair and rational. I learn from another player the he has had a similar experience where she claimed to have called his name yet didnt.

I go home angry and confused as to why this supervisor is taking personal issue with me when I have not done anything to warrant it, and I wonder what will happen in the future now that I have shouted at her and gone to her boss.

Have any of you had experiences with impudent insane evil floor people? How do you keep them from messing up your day? How do you ignore them when you have to deal with them everyday? How do you deal with the fact that what you really want to say you cant or you will be thrown out?

This is something that you are still mad about although it happened awhile back that you didn't get your poker seat?

You are right about the incompetent floor people. So what? Why put yourself on tilt before you play? ]

Many people in Detroit seem to be confused and angry. Don't let it mess up your game. Just get over it and keep raisin'

Know what? I have a problem with numerous redneck "floor persons", employed in Detroit casinos and ALL the Indiana joints. Today's casino environment is the new era of gaming. The Las Vegas gambling experience of days gone by is dead--days when joints thought of gamblers as suckers, but treated them like royalty. Now, the joints treat gamblers like a bunch of hopeless addicts. Worse, they act as though, they are doing you a "favor" by allowing you inside the joint. In Indiana you have "squares", who have never ventured outside the town limits of some backwater, with a population of 250 persons, being assigned as casino supervisors. You can't possess casino "people skills" when you've been in "Sunday school" all your life, then some politicians decide you should have a shot at casino employment, despite your general lack of ever being involved with people who gamble, and never having spoken with, or rarely even seen a black or other "minority" person. In short--There are a lot of jerks working in casinos and the joints DON'T GIVE A D--- about YOU, SO YOU MAY AS WELL STOP COMPLAINING.

I take my business elsewhere. I don't know if that's an option in Detroit, but it's certainly an option in the markets where I have lived (Vegas and Tunica).

Mandalay Bay about 3 years ago. One of my two visits there. It's like 9am and the room is nearly dead, but they manage to get a stud table going. We've been playing 15 minutes and the floor comes over asking everybody for their name. Why? No idea. So he gets to the very nice kid on my right who replies with a deep south american sorta accent:

Player: "Raphael"
Floor: "WHAT?"
Player: "Raphael"
Floor: "okok...stop talking so fast"
Player: "errraaafaaaaeeellll"
Floor: "I can't understand you! Just spell it for me"
Player: "I'm not on any lists, it doesn't matter"
Floor: (now yelling) "GIVE ME YOUR NAME!"
Player: "Please, just don't worry about it"
Floor: (now screaming) "SPELL YOUR NAME FOR ME"
Player: R-A-P-H-A-E-L
Floor: "DAMMIT! S!L!O!W! D!O!W!N!"
Player: RRR - AAA - PPP - HHH - AAA - EEE - LLL
Me: "That's it... I'm done. Buhbye"

The room is empty, there's nothing going on to stress this floor person, and no apparent reason he should even be asking for names. No, he doesn't get to scream and curse at players. Didn't go back for about 18 months. Didn't like that visit much better.

I was there that morning! You were the guy that left?

They had a surprise cash giveaway, we all got $5000! That's why they needed our names.

And we all laughed at the guy who left!
