Default Ethics Question

Today I had an episode, which really tilted me and made me pissed at a guy I saw as a friend before. Because it is poker related I would like to get your point of view on the issue.

I am playing a 10/20 nl game today. Pretty deep (its 200bb max buyin and we are deeper than that).

One of my friend sits down. He usually plays a ultralag/maniac kindda style. But today he plays normal TAG. I therefore ask him twice if it is him or another of our specific friends, who are playin the account? He answers "no, its me" We all comes from the same city and all of us plays regularly 10/20 - 25/50, so we know eachother pretty well.

After we've been playing 3/4-handed for a while a hands comes up, where I got KK and doubles up my friend who holds AA. The preflopaction is pretty wild (goes 70-240-650-1480) but because I think its my maniacish friend who are playing the stacks comes in and I loose around 4,5K. Well, that happens.

But here's the interesting part. Right after that the two guys tells me that it wasn't my maniac-friend, who were playing but my TAG-friend - the guy I suspected were playing and therefore asked the other guy if it was - and as told before - he denied. If I knew that before I would never have lost my entire stack. In other words I lost ~4K because of the little trick.

Afterwards I was really pissed, and I'm still kindda are. But what do you think of this? Is this just a part of poker strategy?

I know, and I would have had absolutely no problem if i had no suspicion.

The crucial point is that the guy *lied* twice, when I asked him if it was the other guy who were playing.

I'm sure the money woulda gone in, but I still think the guy lying would be sleazy even if he hadn't been a friend.

Then again, I feel the same way about making new accounts. IMO it's modern day angle shooting but everyone looks the other way because otherwise-respected high stakesers do it.
