Default What is \"Good\"?

I generally play at the 4/8 game at Canterbury.

About a year ago, I made certain adjustments to my game that took me from being a break-even/small loser to a small-moderate winner (1.25 BB/Hour).

Since I only play once or twice a month, my sample is admittedly not statistically significant, but I feel very comfortable in this game.

I still see leaks -- meaning, I can identify 1 or 2 hands a session that I think I've played badly (considering that I occasionally suck out and win these hands), let's say with my current style I could bring my average up to 2BB an hour, at best.

Here's my question -- given the quality of play, and the rake/drop/tip structure (currently close to 1BB for a large pot), how much better than 1.25-1.5BB/hour can one do at this game.

(My suspicion -- with better play, I could 'maybe' squeeze 1BB/hour more plus .5BB from avoiding silly mistakes-- which is huge).

I haven't seen any long term live stats that are 3BB/hr.+ live. This year, I have 77 hrs. of 2/4 @ 3.1 BB/hr. My rates for 3/6, 4/8 and a little 8/16 are not as good. IMO anything above 2BB/hr. I would regard as variance at these games. Anything 1BB/hr.+ with a good amount of hours is a clear indication of a solid play at these limits against this high a rake.

Even though the players are so bad, at 4/8 the rake is still taking a significant portion of the pot, say 4-8% of an average pot, compared to 8/16, 10/20 etc. Also add in tokes of course. The margin of winning will be slimmer at the lower limits and you have to play so much better than the field (not so hard) consistantly (maybe harder) over thousands of hands.

I agree with fishyak, anything over 1BB/HR or roughly 3BB/100 is really good. Keep stats of your play after about 300 hours ~ 10,000 hands and see where you are.

Kit recently claimed to be a 3BB/hour winner, but other than that I've never heard of anything that good. I agree that with such a high rake, it's going to be tough to put up more than 1 or 2 BB per hour. It really depends a lot on how bad the players are

For those who have never played live, you probably can't imagine how bad the 4-8 players at Canterbury are.
