NL100 Flopped set, strange action
Hand is from Pacific, so I have to rebuild the HH.
Villain is rather new to the table, has played tight and good so far. Nothing special. Any comments welcome, especially on turn and river play. With the straight possibility on board and two small overs, might this be one of the rare moments to fold a set on turn? Honestly, I close to never fold a set in a situation like that! Thank you very much in advance guys! Hero is CO+1: 128.50 $ Villain is MP2: 92.40 $ Hero is dealt 4 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 4 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] SB, BB, MP1 calls, MP2 calls, 1 fold, Hero calls, 2 fold, BB checks. Pot: 4.30$ Flop: 8 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 5 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 4 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] BB checks, MP1 bets 3$, MP2 calls, Hero raises to 12$, BB folds, MP1 folds, MP2 calls. Pot: 29.95$ Turn: K [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] MP2 bets 12$ ??? Hero calls. Pot: 52.75$ River:9 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] MP2 bets 17$, Hero? |

Re: NL100 Flopped set, strange action
raise the turn to $40 and shove the river ... you are light years ahead of his range
What do you put him on? Not just the scary stuff but the entire range? |

Re: NL100 Flopped set, strange action
Problem is, I see 76, 88 and 55 definetely in his range, especially when he bets out turn after being raised on flop...
No overpairs, cause he would ve raised PF; nothing like A8 because 1) dont think he would ve played them PF 2) IF, he would ve raised flop to get it HU or take the pot down: something like 87 for top pair + gut shot, but he wouldn't come out betting on turn then. Only hand I can imagine he COULD ve played that way post flop and that I beat is K8, but that doesn't make sense either cause you don't see tight, rather good players limp too often from MP2 with K8 stuff... That turn bet is just too scary to raise and shove IMO. |

[ QUOTE ]
Villain is rather new to the table, has played tight and good so far. [/ QUOTE ] Not sure how many hands you have played with villain but if your read that he is tight is indeed correct than i don't mind your turn call. Also call river. |

Re: NL100 Flopped set, strange action
he is rather new but has played tight and good ... what is his opinion of you? solid, tight, loose, aggressive???

Re: NL100 Flopped set, strange action
He has to see me as tight and solid, I was rather card dead for the like 4 orbits we played together so far, and as the table was pretty loose in many spots, I tightened up a lot in contrast to my normal playing style.

Re: NL100 Flopped set, strange action
Interesting idea, but isn't raising small PPs at loose tables rather -EV? Even if I raised my AKs PF from LP to 4-5 BB, I got like 4 callers...
I mean, does it make sense to raise with that hand when you have close to no FE? |

Re: NL100 Flopped set, strange action
If that's your read of villain, follow your gut by not raising, but I'm not folding. I'd call both and take a few notes.

Re: NL100 Flopped set, strange action
I have never played a table where everytime I raised I got 4 or 5 callers. This sounds like bad position at the table. Postition yourself so you act after the maniacs. Then raise. Then hit your set and quadruple up.
