Default Apprentice LA (spoilers)

Anyone watch this? I thought the first episode was very good, though I have not really watched the previous seasons so the concept is not stale for me as it may be for others.

Some thoughts:
1. Pretty good crop of females, especially the leader of the winning team
2. Frank seems like a really hard worker, but everytime he opens his mouth he makes a fool of himself. Also, he seems really obsequious. He probably won't last long
3. Ivanka carried herself better than I expected

My buddy from high school's friend from Harvard is one of the cast members of this show. I'll have to find out his name so I can see how big of a douche he probably is, or if hes actually tolerable.

There's a guy named Tim who went to Harvard who might be the guy. He actually seemed like a decent guy, from this episode at least.

I'm in the same situation, first time watching the show and I enjoyed it. I'm amazed at the lack of interpersonal and leadership skills displayed by a lot of those guys. From their backgrounds I would have thought they'd be much more solid in those fundamental skills.

Frank made a lot of mistakes as the PM, he was definitely the biggest factor in his team's loss, but Martin as a PM would have been an absolute disaster. I don't think Frank is good enough all around to win this thing, but he has strengths in certain areas. I don't know what Martin is good for. So from that perspective, I think Trump's decision was correct.

I thought it was BS whoever asked that question in the boardroom, "Do you think Frank was at a disadvantage because he doesn't know the skill sets of his team yet?" (paraphrased) The first thing I would have done would be to have a conversation like this:

Me: "Does anyone here have a strong background in marketing?"
Carey: "I'm the President/Owner of a marketing and promotions firm."
Me: "OK go do your thing and get me some cars in here."

Not knowing the strengths of your team is retarded.

edit: Oh yeah, I would have also fired Martin just for the way he was dressed. He was just an all around embarassment to himself.

I think their lack of personal skill is probably excacerbated by the format of the show. It encourages people to peacock themselves and backstab their teammates, which most of those people would probably not do in an everyday business setting.

But even taking that into account, I agree that many of the contestants seemed to lack basic interpersonal skills. Frank, for example, probably would not have been so close to getting fired if he knew how to explain himself without getting flustered and hyper-defensive

One of the biggest issues with people on this show is that they are mostly all Type A personalities and have been top dog at much of what they've done in school and professional lives. Its very difficult for that type person to step back and let someone else lead and take charge, without putting in their own 2 cents. They can very be smart and successful due to their domineering personality, but totally socially inept when it comes to dealing with other Type A's. The people that can work the best with others and dont try to totally dominate the game seem to do the best. Those that dont work well with others will never win.

WRT to tonight's show, I was surprised that they did not do some sort of product placement type show for the season premiere. The first season was the best because they did real business challenges. Then the show became overly commercialized as many companies saw it as a way to pimp their product to a mass audience, while Trump took in the product placement fees. The show suffered a bit IMHO because it really turned into a 45 minute long commercial.

I'm not sure I'm sold on the tent thing, but this season does hold some promise. Anyone else think the team leader from the other team looks like Rhona Mitra? So. Hot.

ive watched all the seasons and this one is looking a little boring so far. i like the LA setting personally because im very familiar with the area. i like how with the exception of the guy they got rid of tonight there werent any other obvious complete bozos. other seasons have had as many as 3 or 4 loose cannons who obviously had no shot whatsoever. im sure it will be better than last season where the competition was very weak even down to the ultimate winner. like survivor and amazing race (the other two reality shows i really like and watch with my kids) this show really gets started about midway into the season when theyve gotten out a lot of the riff raff.

I can't stand Trump's daughter, there's just something about her. Her deep voice, her lack of experience (has she ever had a job other than a few modeling gigs?), just her personality in general. I prefer Carolyn and George.

ivanka was done with being a model a long time ago and has been involved in high stakes real estate for years. i was very impressed with her last season. keep watching, you'll see.
