NL400: bluff river in 4-way pot?
Party Poker No-Limit Hold'em, $4 BB (5 handed) Hand History Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com (Format: FlopTurnRiver)
BB ($400) UTG ($466.50) MP ($398) Hero ($394) SB ($837.16) Preflop: Hero is Button with 5, 5. UTG calls $4, MP raises to $16</font>, Hero calls $16, SB calls $14, BB calls $12, UTG calls $12. Flop: ($80) 3, 2, 6 (5 players)</font> SB checks, BB bets $20</font>, UTG folds, MP calls $20, Hero calls $20, SB calls $20. Turn: ($160) K (4 players)</font> SB checks, BB bets $28</font>, MP calls $28, Hero calls $28, SB calls $28. River: ($272) 3 (4 players)</font> SB checks, BB checks, MP checks, Hero goes all-in. My reads: - I just sat down at the table, I have 0 stats on anyone. I'm guessing at least one of the other players is donkish/loose-passive based on the action in this hand, but other than that I know nothing... On the flop: - I call because the bet is small, I might have the best hand, and I have a gutshot. On turn: - Same as flop On river: - Draws didn't hit, everyone checks, and I think it's unlikely that they'd all check to me if any of them has anything worth calling a big bet with. - On the other hand, I think it's likely that I won't get credit for a very good hand here, since most reasonable players would raise a good hand before the river on this draw-heavy board. - Then again, I'm probably an unknown on this table, and I could easily be a donk with some kind of 2 pair, trips, or a weird slowplayed straight or full house, besides it's a tough call with any one pair type hand, right? Is it worth it, or will I be bluffing with the best hand often enough and getting called often enough that checking behind would be better? And if betting is good, would a smaller bet that looks like it "wants to be called" be better than what I did (overbet the pot about 25%-30% by going all-in, or will this result in getting called by K-type hands and 1010+ hands too often?) |

[/ QUOTE ] Yup, and the funny thing is I've probably played many more hands than you too (If the date you registered here is anywhere near the date you started playing winning poker) I might be retarded, but I'm making money |

raise the flop, fold to an all in [/ QUOTE ] I guess that might be a better line. The reason I didn't do it was because I didn't want to give anyone the chance to semibluff reraise me (i mean, it's pretty likely that someone is on a draw here, right?), but I guess you're right that it might be a better way to play it. But is the line I took really that horrible? I mean, the options on the flop are call or raise, right? My call on the turn might be questionable, but when I called I did so thinking that I might bluff the river some of the time (since noone seemed to want to play a big pot) and/or that my implied odds might be semi-decent. When I got to the river, I was close to checking behind, but I didn't like the chance someone with a hand like 67 or 88 might win it that way. I mean, even a hand like KQ should have a problem calling that riverbet, right? Do people really checkraise/call rivers like this often enough that bluffing is that horrible? |
