Value bet or check behind? NL $50 6m
Villian is a typical loose passive, 45/3/.46AF over about 300 hands. He calls pf raises with any ace, any two pictures, etc.
Party Poker No Limit Holdem Ring game Blinds: $0.25/$0.50 5 players Converter Stack sizes: UTG: $46.79 CO: $51 Hero: $47.50 SB: $49.30 BB: $50 Pre-flop: (5 players) Hero is Button with J[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] A[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 2 folds, Hero raises to $2, SB calls, BB folds. Flop: 9[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] A[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 8[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] ($4.5, 2 players) SB bets $3, Hero calls. Turn: 8[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] ($10.5, 2 players) SB bets $3, Hero calls. River: T[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] ($16.5, 2 players) SB checks, Hero ??? Couple questions: Anyone hate just calling down vs. a passive Villian? Anyone value bet this river, and if so, how much? Thanks in advance, AZp |

Re: Value bet or check behind? NL $50 6m
I like raising the flop, when in position. If you're called, you can shutdown and control the size of the pot or you can value bet the turn and play defense on the river, or bet it as ewll. If you're reraised, you can dump the hand safely.
Only bad part about this is that you won't gain as much value from a villain bluffing an 9 or something, but I think calling down is somewhat of a mistake. |

Re: Value bet or check behind? NL $50 6m
Oh yea, the river. If he's been calling down with weaker hands, or betting out and giving up with them as well, I'll value bet. I'm not so concerned about AF, as he probaby does bet out some hands. The reason an AF is low is not because he folds a lot, but because he calls down a lot. It is likely he is facing aggression, and does not hit back, more so than that he just does not bet without superstrong hands.

Check behind, good enough pot for AJ.

Check behind, good enough pot for AJ. nh [/ QUOTE ] Good enough pot? Either hero is behind and should check, or he's ahead and should bet if he belivs he'll be called. Do you often check behind because the pot is "big enough"? |

[/ QUOTE ] dont really like raising the flop against this villan. if he were more aggro, sure, but when you have a super passive leading into you, i prefer calling down. theres not a tremendous amount of value in raising here and i doubt hes leading into us with straight draws. calling down here is the best way for pot control imo. the river is close but i might be inclined to throw out a 1/2 pot bet. |
