endgame strategy - pot odds and such.
£20 buy in, unlimited rebuys for first hour and half, 1 add on.
prize pool of around £2300. tournament started with 37 players, we are now down to the final table with 9 left. first 5 get paid with 5th place getting £120 and increasing amounts to 1st place which gets around £1100. hero has spent £60. blinds are 800/1600, average stacks are 13500. folded around, hero has 24000 on the button, and raises to 4500 with AJ os. villain, in the big blind, moves all in for an extra 11500. therefore there is 21300 in the pot and it costs 11500 for me to call, giving almost 2 to 1 pot odds. i have no information on villain as we have only played a few hands at the final table and he was on different tables throughout the whole tourney. however, he did make an excessively large raise committing himself the hand before which wasnt called, with apparently a 'medium pair'. should hero call this raise with AJ os?? i did call, figuring i had to be REAL dominated for it be a correct laydown, and in fact villain had KK which held up to win. |

Re: endgame strategy - pot odds and such.
That's a fold. All in is his only move at this point, it's not excessive. Until you have a read that he's restealing alot you should give him credit for a better ace or good pair.
If his range is AQ AK and 99-AA you need 3-1 to call. Since you're not even getting 2-1, you need to be able to add alot of bluffs to his range for this to be a good call in terms of pot odds. I'd guess your table is not too strong and that you may have a good chance to steal alot on the bubble so I'd lean even more toward folding even if you're getting a decent pot odds price. |

Re: endgame strategy - pot odds and such.
It depends on how tight or loosely you think your opponent will reraise with
from the BB. If he is a tight player (top 5% AA-99, AK-AQ) its a fold. If he is average (top 10% AA-77, AK-AT, KQ) then its a call. Since this is a button vs BB blind war, and you will often be on a complete steal, your hand is much stronger than can normally be expected. Many players will defend their BB with a hell of alot less than 99 here, especially given the fact that hes down to under 10 BBs here. Unless you have some read on the opponent that would lead you to believe that his range is much tighter than expected for this type of BB defense, then I think its a pretty easy call. No Limit Holdem Theory and Practice, by Sklansky and Miller, has a good discussion on calling allin bets preflop. |

Re: endgame strategy - pot odds and such.
Easy call. Would have to be as tight as 99+/AQ+ to fold, which is pretty ridiculous readless.
Be sure to leave out results in the future. |
