I need more calories.
note: I was completely ignorant about anything w/r/t to healthy eating until a few months ago. Now I'm only fairly ignorant. Educate me.
Anyway, I just started using this caloric need calculator here and it turns out I've been way under eating calorie wise and probably have been for a few months now. According to that 2280 cal. a day to maintain my current weight and 1755 cal as a bare minimum (1780 to lose a pound a week). I've been keeping a (sloppy) list the last 3 days and according to it I'm only getting around 1000 cal. a day depending on how many calories are in some of the things I eat that are in unmarked packages. [ QUOTE ] Sat: 2pm- 1 cup of cottage cheese - 160c ?-Steak+BBQ sauce (?c), Whole grain macaroni - 210c ?-candy bar 90c 7.15pm- yogurt 60c 10.50pm- candy bar 90c 1.30am- rice? 3am- yogurt 60c Sun: 1pm- Burger King (jr. bacon cheese plain, cheeseballs)-no clue 5.30pm- chicken, cheese, shell, lettuce- ~540c total 10pm- yogurt 60c Mon: 7.45am- .5 cup brown rice - 150c ?- candy bar 90c ?- banana 11.30am- frozen chicken balls ~360c ?-candy bar 90c ?-yogurt 60c Tues: 1.45pm- fried chicken- ? [/ QUOTE ] things I eat a lot: cheap steak, whole wheat macaroni, brown rice, turkey w/ whole wheat bread, fat free cottage cheese. So what are some healthy foods I can eat that are high in calories? What am I doing wrong here? Something is clearly way out of whack. |

Re: I need more calories.
WTF? How much steak are you eating?
A 8 ounce steak should have ~300 calories alone. If you really have trouble getting calories... Drink them. But WTF? Fix your diet first. You eat trash all day and like a bird to boot. |

Re: I need more calories.
steak- package said about .6 pound IIRC. I ate the whole thing.
I've been keeping odd hours lately which has cut down on my eating some, but even when I was eating total crap I didn't eat much more than I do now. |

Re: I need more calories.
There's need be a FAQ that says:
If fat, eat less. If thin, eat more. This is retarded. Eat more, you still eat like [censored]. Peace. |

Re: I need more calories.
Yeah, I'm aware of that. My question was where I could fix that.

Re: I need more calories.
thanks. I have some all natural peanut butter. Seems high in fat, but I will start eating it more.
is there a reason to prefer fish oil pills over flax oil pills? i was told the fish oil would make my piss stink and to use flax instead. edit: this seem like a good start? |

[/ QUOTE ] the fat is what makes peanut butter good for you...i think the difference between fish oil and flax is the ratio of EPA/DHA, but i take both every day...i haven't noticed stinky piss, but would that really be a big deal? do you spend a lot of time smelling your own urine? do others smell your urine? |

Re: I need more calories.
make some thai chicken with peanut sauce dishes (chicken broth/stock is in it too). good way to get high protein, good fats, and good sources of carbs (whole wheat pasta, for example).

[/ QUOTE ] From what I understand, flax seed oil doesn't contain any EPA or DHA. It has some other fatty acid that your body converts to these two, but inefficiently. You have to eat like ten times as much flax oil as fish oil to get the same amount of EPA and DHA. |
