Default 200NL: I beat a bluff, and can\'t put him on a hand..

I didn't have stats up yet for villian, but he seemed to be limping a lot of hands from early position (turns out he is like 36/7 PF), and I had been raising him from in late position quite a bit already.

Checking behind the river would have been a very good idea. He has 44/33 quite often here.

River bet is horrible - Ack

Even getting better than 3:1, this is a fold.

Yeah, I thought he might have 44/33 on the flop and turn, but for some reason my BS detector was going off, when the river came a 3, that gave him 1 combination of cards for quads, so really there was only 44 to worry about. I thought there was a good chance he had a lower or high Q, or a missed draw (56) or a middle pair.

When he checked to me on the river, I thought he was way behind my range, and a check raise makes no sense, because most of the time I should check behind instead of make a thin value bet.

So I called.

I think the river is a pretty easy value bet and he will show up with 66-99 a lot here, and call.

Also, would you check behind AA here, because its very similar (except I guess i would beat Q4, but wtf)?

Why on God's green earth did you bet river? You wanted value from Q9/8's?!?!?!? I hardly ever see this as being a bluff you have to fold now. 56 is the only hand you beat at the moment.

AA isn't similar at all. AA gets value from QT/AQ/KQ whereas what worse hands call river when you have QJ here.

Fold flop. River bet sucks, you're not getting any value from worse hands

Personally I fold on the flop. Yes I realise we could be getting check raise bluffed off the pot but do we really want to play a big pot with a very marginal hand? If we call this on the flop we need to consider the likely action for turn and river. Most likely scenario is that we face another big bet on the turn and possibly the river as well.

As for the river, what the hell is this $45 bet all about. What worse hands call you here? JJ and A4 but thats about it. With a marginal hand you should be delighted to get a free showdown not be re-opening the betting. You said yourself in the title you can't put him on a hand so don't make life hard for yourself with bets that can't make any money.
