How much to buy-in for
I play online at the following limits for Stud HI and Stud/8:
A) $0.10/$0.25 (5 cent bring-in, 2 cent ante for stud HI, 1 cent ante for stud/8 B) $0.25/$0.50 (10 cent bring-in, 5 cent ante) I usually bring 20-25 big bets to the table. Is this about correct? AC |

Re: How much to buy-in for
I usually buy in for 10 BB, but i am a nit. Anything between 20 and 30 is standard.

Re: How much to buy-in for
You should have at least 16 big bets at all times for razz and hi/lo and 18 for high. Beyond that hardly matters.

Re: How much to buy-in for
I usually buy in for 30-40 in hi/lo, i.e. enough to guarantee I have at least 16 at all times, and I won't drop below 16 and have the hassle of reloading if I lose a couple of biggish pots. 40 is probably overkill, but it's easy to just double the default 20BB buyin that Stars offers you when you start.

Re: How much to buy-in for
I see many of us buying in for at least 20BB, some buy-in for 25BB or between 30-40BB (is this necessary at the micro-limits?). So at what point am I reloading, when I get below 16BB? At the $0.10/$0.25 table I play at, I typically buy-in for $5.00 (20BB). Should I be buying in for $6.00 and if I drop below $4.00 (16BB) reload back to $6.00? Most of the donks I play against come to the table with $2.00 or $3.00.
I have only had to reload three times so far out of 1,600 hands, but I typically reload when I get under 10BB instead of waiting until I get stacked. The reason I do this is because if I only have 5-6 BB in my stack and I get a monster, I don't want to be all-in by 5th or 6th street and still have people willing to chase draws or call with worse hands to the end. Re: How much to buy-in for
So is there any reason not to buy in for large amounts? I tend to buy in for 50BBs just because I hate reloading.

Re: How much to buy-in for
I like to keep enough in front of me that I can cap every street if the need arises, especially in stud/8. Just buy in for $100.
Bear in mind that most of the donks that you play against are, well, donks. |

Re: How much to buy-in for
lol, is their any upside for me buying in for 10 big bets, i don't know why i do it. I am sort of a bad steamer so and when i get short i have the tourament attitude of just getting it all in and hoping for the best

I suppose it lets you try and hit your low draw cheaply if you're all-in on 5th or something. It likely hurts you more though since your monsters won't get paid off for as much and lets others draw out on you. |
