Default I\'m my own worst enemy!? I think?

Blinds are 300/600 with like a 50 ante.
10-handed 10,000 Guarantee at UB.
Down to about 50 players. 40 get paid.
Hero is in CO with A [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]T [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] with about 7,000.
Villian in hand just showed up 15 hands ago and has 25,000.
Hasn't played a hand yet.

Pre-Flop: 7 folds, Hero raises to 2000, 2 folds, BB calls

Flop: K [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] J [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] T [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]
Villian checks, Hero bets 3000, Villian calls.

Turn: 6 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]
Villian checks, Hero checks.

River: brick
Villian checks, Hero checks.

To me, this play seemed fairly standard given the circumstances. Granted, the flop could hit a lot of hands, but I felt like I needed to bet there.

I haven't been playing much tourney poker lately, and just wanted a check-up on this hand. Thanks for the help.

The flop bet means that you have 2000 (three big blinds) behind having put 5000 in the pot?
Seems very strange play to me. I think either you stick it all in on the flop or get the rest in on the turn (you can assume you're getting called at that stage) with the nut flush draw, the gutshot nut str8 draw and the bottom pair top kicker.
What's the rationale behind the flop bet?

You've left yourself with nothing if you loose this hand. If you win this hand you have failed to make another 2000.

I'm probably pushing pre-flop.

With 6k in the pot, and 5k behind, I'm certainly pushing the flop.

These are the situations that confuse me the most when it comes to post-flop tournament play. I flop a marginal hand in-position, and any decent size bet cripples me or puts me all-in if I lose.

My rationale behind the flop bet was that I wanted to leave myself enough money to have a glimmer of hope if I lost, and to make a big enough bet to increase my fold equity against the villian's range.

Is this a situation where I should be playing weak tight post-flop due to stack size and the stage in the tournament? I really am not sure?

Is there any value in trying to check this down given my stack?

you have a very awkward stack. I would prob push preflop. In your situation, betting all in on the flop is correct. The small bet you make gives you the smallest chance you have to win, and wins you the least when you do win. and with blinds at 300-600, you have less than 4 BB's to play with and an M of less than 1.3
