Default live poker strategy forum

I am a fairly new poster here, but I have been reading these forums for quite some time. It recently occurred to me that maybe there should be separate strategy forums for discussing live poker. Currently, the strategy forums are filled with mostly online hands, with some live ones thrown in there. And often the advice that online players give live players is off because the games play so differently. Live hand discussion requires so much more in terms of describing reads and history with various players.

I only play no limit, so can't say anything about the other games. But in that case it would be cool to have one live strategy forum. It wouldn't need to be broken down by stakes because there wouldn't be nearly as many posts as the online counterparts, and the skill levels of players generally stay pretty bad even as you move up in stakes live . Anyone think this is a good idea?

I've recommended that people post B&M hands in the Full Ring forum for a while. Live players who have tried Full Ring reported that they liked it. There's a thread here about this with links to other threads.

OP - use the search to find the other multiple times this topic has been discussed. I'm too lazy to give you the links

cue- Tuq and Ed for a snappy retort.

Live plays 10 max and most online plays 6 max. Live players are looser, more passive and generally worse. More tells/fewer stats are involved.

What all this means is that you have to play a little nittier. You can't valuebet as thin because he could easily be c/cing you with a monster. You can't 3 bet suited connectors because its much more likely he has an overpair. And when he is getting aggressive, it is much less likely he is bluffing or valuebetting thin.

At least, in the small stakes games I play in. I think this applies to high stakes games as well.

nothing if you learn to adjust to different table textures, player types and tendencies. Thats the true skill, learning how to adjust.

I don't think the most significant difference between live and online is strategy. Yes, Iron81 is dead on right in his explanation of the differences in strategy but I don't think strategy is the primary difference.

I think the pyschological side, not tilting over the mindless suckouts or watching some complete donkey catch miracle card after miracle and your premium hands and draws get killed hand after hand after hand, is the most difficult adjustment.

Online, the stakes compared to the quality of players is lower, so you have better players at $1-2 online than probably as high as $5-10 live (depending upon what the lowest limits are at your casino) so if someone sucks out on you online, it is for less money and the hands come at you so much faster that the donkey is going broke soon anyway so you just hope you get your share before it happens.

Playing live there are more donkeys and because the hands are much slower, their miracle runs can seem to last forever and you have to guard against your play deteriorating because of tilt.

I think in live play at low limits once you learn the basics, the main difference is keeping your head on straight and playing good poker, It is much more difficult than it sounds.

there should be separate live and online forums for small stakes LIMIT (1/2 - 10/20) imo
