Default flat bar road bikes - specialized sirrus

i'm not sure if this is in the right forum, feel free to move.

i'm considering buying a flat bar road bike. this is basically a road bike that has flat handlebars so you ride it upright like a road bike instead of hunched over like a road bike.

the only one i've been able to ride has been a specialized sirrus (non-sport). my local bike shop is getting in a sport model (has some carbon fiber parts, but is $650 instead of $500) that i'll be test riding today.

i'm going out to another bike shop today to see what they have. any bike you think i need to try? any thoughts on the sirrus?

how many miles a week do you plan on riding? are you going to get competitive at all (even if with yourself for mileage or times)?

I used to have one like this. I took it off some sweet ramps.

OP, what makes what you are discussing a road bike? Do you still clip in? I just ask because I am road bike shopping as well.

I think a flat bar would be better for like, riding around a city, but if you're thinking about doing any long rides or anything, the regular kind is better. but i dont know that much, just that my roommate has a flatbar and I have a curly one.

yeah, i probably should've mentioned what i wanted it for. all in-city on the road (duh), with my only goal to get to get around conveniently. i bike 3-4 times/week, usually around 5-10 miles when i take it out.

i wound up bying the specialized sirrus sport. i'm pretty psyched about it.
