Policy on name changes?

A regular in STTF has asked me what he needs to do to change his 2p2 name. I told him he needs to open a new account because 2p2 is general against name changes to established posters. But, I didn't know why?

Or, am I way off here and is changing his 2p2 name acceptable?

People can request display name changes by editing their profile. However, we usually deny changes that would completely alter the identity of the poster, unless there is a good reason.

Also, a reminder for any new mods:
Name changes must go through an admin.
