Default How do you analyse a poker hand?

I see people post hands and other people give opinions on how they would have played. It seems a little odd to me. Because the thing that makes poker complicated at all is that the correct move often seems completely dependent on the particular game you are in. So what someone thinks about about a hand they were not in may be meaningless. It is not like chess where a correct move can actually be determined with reasonable exactitude. Other than noticing rather general fundamental errors, or statistical tendencies what can we really say. I also queston the objectivity of the players because so much incorrect play can be explained away by " I read him this way or that " or I was trying this or that.
So to improve ones play, how does one actually analyze a poker hand? I have read recommendations to analyze one's play. But I am curios how experts actually do this and what is the recommended procedure. I think this qualifies as a beginner question. Mostly I play holdem. But I think this applies to all forms. So what procedure do experts really follow? Thanks for any advice.

Good question.

So what procedure do experts really follow?

Start with pot odds. Did the player get the right price to call on a draw or with second pair and a back door draw?

Suppose a player flops top pair with a flush draw on board. The player in question raised from ep with a hand like AK and the flop come A 4 5 with two suits. Should the player check raise or bet?

I agree every hand gets played differently but a player needs to have a read of where he stands in a hand and act accordingly.

I hope this has helped somewhat.

Some plays are obviously marginal and if you have a "read" on an opponent that can certainly influence your decision but others plays are clearly right or wrong from a long term +/-EV.

If you have 72o and pre flop you had a raise and a re-raise before you I think we can assume a fold would be in order.

There are so many factors to determine a particular play, I grant you, and each case should be considered on its merits but some decsions will be more crrect than others.

When people post hands, they usually posts stats and reads for the villain. Comments take this into consideration, and posters make different suugestions depending on the kind of villain in the hand.
