Purchased a pipe, now hook me up with some tobacco
Just purchased a pipe and really don't know good tobacco from bad. Point me in the right direction.
Edit: FWIW, I'm smoking Brokum Riff Og Ultra Light at the moment. Super edit: My pipe: |

Re: Purchased a pipe, now hook me up with some tobacco
Just go to a cigar store. They should a bunch of jars of different blends. Pick the one that smells best. It shouldn't cost more than a couple dollars per ounce. Sample until you find something you like. I really don't know much about commercial blends.

Re: Purchased a pipe, now hook me up with some tobacco
You should probably stick to black cavendish-based blends.
Tobacco Galleria has some good blends to start out with. I'd reccomend Blue Note, Night Cap, and just get a bulk bag of Black Cavendish as a standby. oh, you mentioned bold/rich taste. I guess try for some Virginia/Burley mixtures. Def look up your local tobacco shops. Sometimes those guys make up their own blends and could really get you started in the right direction (and also help you out with basics). Light it with matches or a butane lighter (but I reccomend matches for ease of use), NOT a regular bic lighter. Packing: this just takes practice and is hard to explain. Just google it a bit and do some reading. Enjoy, jrbick |

Re: Purchased a pipe, now hook me up with some tobacco
The guy in the Edinburgh tobacco shop who hooked me up with a briar suggests you start out with sweetish tobaccos (I had cherry/vanilla) then after each ounce, find progressively less sweet ones (dark chocolate, raisin etc.) until you eventually start smoking tobacco-flavoured tobacco.
GL in your pipe smoking endeavour. I didn't realise they were becoming the thing to have. |

They aren't the thing to have. At 21, I doubt many of my peers smoke out of Sherlock Holmes style pipes. Intricate glass blown pipes, yes.
And thanks for all the good info! |
