Default Fundraising Ideas

I have to fundraise $500-$1000 for a teacher appreciation day at an elementary school. This project is for a class I'm currently taking. Does anyone have any ideas about easy ways to fundraise this amount of cash if I'm in a group of 7 people?

Ask people to turn in Gift Cards that only have a few bucks left on them. You might have to work out some type of deal to redeem them, but I always thought it would be a good way to raise money for a charity. Granted these companies bank on people not using the whole value of them, but if its for a charity I imagine it might be harder for them to be dicks..

For a teacher appreciation day? Call all sorts of local stores (Walmart, Target, Applebee's, McDonalds, local hang outs, gas stations) and ask them if they'd be willing to donate a certain amount. If they give $100 or more, you'll send them a plaque or something with a group shot of the teacher with something like "Thanks to Home Depot for sponsoring 2006 Teacher Appreciation Day!". Thus, you'd need to raise another $100 for that.

The only problem with this is, you'll need to your school's NPO number or whatever it is. Companies LOVE tax deductions.
