Default Buying a tv

Quick question, i am considering buying a tv but would like to know a few things.

I am looking to drop about 600 to 1k on a tv, anywhere from like 30 to 40 inches. What should i be looking for? Any advice? I have absolutely no idea what to be looking for in tv's.
