5/10c ring vs. $2+.25c on FTP
I'm just getting into online poker, and I definitely have the basics down+ working on my own style. I have a good understanding of the game, and I feel like I will be successful. I placed 3rd in the 1800 person free-roll on FTP earning $9. After asking around, and deciding I felt more comfortable playing SNGs. Or so I thought. I played a $1 turbo, and won it. I thought they were incredible soft, and I will place ITM more than 50% of the time. After winning that one I moved on to $2+.25c. Way out of my bankroll, I know. But I'm just trying to find the best way to actually HAVE a bankroll to play with. After busting out on the bubble a couple of times, and being down to where I started from,I decided to try ring games. In about 30 minutes I was up $10. I feel it's a lot easier to identify the range of hands in micro ring games. Now I have around $20, and I know that i'm still playing out of my BR. Should I stick to the 5/10c and hoping I don't get sucked out for my roll? I have enough to sit at two tables with the max buy in. What do you guys think? Any words of advice.

if the buy in is 10 and you have $20 you will be playing scared and there's a good chance you will either not capitalize on your good hands. Also with just two buyins your probabilities of busting are extremely high.

Actually, I haven't been playing scared. I've been playing TAG, I play like 80% of hands with a raise. The people that play those limits don't know what a pre-flop raise is. lol

Do not play the SNGs the 25% rake will kill you..I would play 2 tables of the 5c/10c NL but not buy in for the full amount..I would only buy in for 50BBs..
Remember its free money..But treat it like gold and build it up.. |

I suggest you start playing with 20 buy-ins for the level you play. Unfortunately you don't have it, meh. I'd say got to 1/2c and buy in for 100bb and learn some poker. Play there untill you have 20x100bb for the next level.

You can play almost perfect and still get a bad run of cards and get busted. I always buy in full, but since you have such a small bankroll, I would even consider buying in for 50bb, until you grow your bankroll. I started similar with 17$ on Pokerstars Sep. 28th and have won about 730$ so far. Bankroll mngt. is extremely important. I moved up when having 22x max buy in for the next level and drop down inmediatly when falling below 20x max buy in for a level. I just checked and see that 0.05/0.10 is the smallest nlhe ring games on full tilt, that sucks. Stay away from STT until you have a bigger bankroll. GL hope you get up to a 100$ or so you can play more comfortably. |

Recommend following Ed Miller's short stack strategy (I think it's 25BB buyin) - you are roughly half rolled for it! I have $4 in my FTP roll after depositing $50 and watching it get bad beat + tilt + poor play away at 10NL. Played a few $1 donkaments, but the rake is monstrous. Then I discovered Stars 2NL! If you can scrape together $50 for a deposit on Stars, do that. Now, how do I turn my $4 into megabucks? Double up at cash, or enter an MTT? |
