live 3/6.. how can I judge my play?
Is there a way to determine, statistically, whether I'm doing well if I average $30-40/hr? Usually I end up -$60 to +$150 after 4-5 hrs, and my stack is normally within that spectrum.

How many hours? You need a lot of hours, at least several hundred, before you can get a statistically reliable read on your play from just your win rate.
On a side note, $30-40/hr at 3/6 is an awesome, possibly unsustainable, win rate. |

Re: live 3/6.. how can I judge my play?
Okay thanks. That might be a little off..not meaning to brag. It might be more like $20-$30/hr. I don't win every time, but I think the most I've lost is $150 (got rivered to death) and the most I've won is about $150. Usually I walk out +$30 to $60, and it's rare that I walk out after 2-3 hrs being down more than $60.
I start with $100 and it just seems like my stack always hovers around -60 to +120. |

Not to be mean, but it doesn't sound like you have a very good handle on your exact win rate, so I don't think you're going to ever reliably use it to judge your play. I recommend you keep a written record. It's pretty easy to keep a little notepad and, when you leave the casino, write down - the date/time, how long you played, at what stakes, and how much you made/lost. When I used to play a lot, I'd also write notes on players at the same time and I think it helped my win rate tremendously.

Re: live 3/6.. how can I judge my play?
Not mean at all. I know my estimates are rough.. so I was just wondering what a good $/hr winrate looks like for 3/6. I know in about 30 visits to the casino that I've been felted about 4 times and have had to rebuy my stake once. I guess I'd like to know whether playing 2 hrs and winning $30-40 bucks is good. I don't really have a desire to move up to 4/8 because I don't like stack swings.

I guess I'd like to know whether playing 2 hrs and winning $30-40 bucks is good. [/ QUOTE ] Sure, $15-$20 an hour, why not. Some people here would gouge their eyes out if they made $20/hr. So, it's all relative. Nothing wrong with $20/hr doing something you like. The REAL question is, is it sustainable? ( I would guess no at $3/$6) That, you will have to figure out on your own. The "long term" is much longer than you think. [ QUOTE ] I don't really have a desire to move up to 4/8 because I don't like stack swings. [/ QUOTE ] I don't get this? What is a stack swing? |

lol... "stack swings" are another way of saying bankroll, I guess. I don't like digging into my wallet, so a bad run at a 4/8 table would be a lot more painful than it is currently. I'm comfy at 3/6 b/c I know I'm going to win more than I lose.
Thanks a lot for your thoughts.. |

Re: live 3/6.. how can I judge my play?
The highest possible winrate in this game is probably something like $12/hr.
