NO reads on villain. I made then turn bet slightly small considering that it was going in on the river. I realize now that if I had made the turn bet bigger then it woudln't be as much of a questino on this river, but is villain doing this with an 8 enough to call this? Thanks

I call the river out of spite. The other justification is that you have no read. Also, there is some chance Villain has clubs or JT and is bluffing.
Meanwhile, an 8 is pretty damn unlikely unless Villain is the type to bet bottom pair on an ace-high flop into a PFR and two other players and then, after improving to trips on the turn, simply check-call. In short, you played the hand well and then the river screwed you. But there is always the hope that Villain is trying a desperation river bluff into someone who has already clearly represented a big ace . Edit: Anyway, a spite call isn't really that expensive, since Villain will have played some worse hand like a moron on occasion, and you are getting 5:1. But if Villain had much more to bet, then this is one of those hands where the best play really would be to fold in disgust. |

oh ok yea that's what i thought, i immediately regretted not betting more on the turn (but villain was drawing pretty thin) so that the spite call would be even easier.
