5/10 on a site without pokertracker support, Villain is much too loose preflop (limping J8o and K3o in late position), too aggressive postflop (with what appeared to be a free-showdown raise with middle pair, no draw), and showing down hands that I would have folded, so I guess I would characterize him as a maniac. I have AA in pretty early position and insta-raise.
I don't remember how many people saw the flop but a couple or three cold callers and then K 7 4 rainbow. I bet and villain calls. Turn 5, two hearts on the board. I bet, villain raises, I ? Should I charge him here with a turn 3-bet on a relatively disconnected board, or is an overpair too weak to go to war with here? Suppose I am four-bet, is there any river that I should check/fold? Results: He four bets, I river a set and donkbet, he calls and mucks. |

Against a mania, 3 bet the turn and call a raise. Re-evaluate ont he river. If he is a true maniac, you very well might still be ahead. A gainst anyone else, you are behind.

whatever you do, make sure you get to showdown. Sounds like a guy who will overvalue nearly any holding.

I know it's sometimes tough with no PT numbers, but your description doesn't sound like that of a maniac. Also, is it heads-up on the flop? The turn?
If he's really a maniac, then I'm not folding, but I don't think I'm 3-betting, either. I think calling then leading into him on the river thwarts a FSDR while not exposing you to a 3-bet with only one pair. |
