Default Hand Protection Posts?

Anybody here have some good posts stuck in their favorites somewhere about when you should protect your hand? I've been feeling lately that I'm not applying this concept very well in my play.

This concept isn't really that hard. If there are draws on the board and you are against opponents whose range is likely to include that draw, you should probably bet at least the flop when you have what is likely to be the best hand. The exception is when your made hand would still likely be the best even if the draw came in (i.e. A[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]K[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] on a A[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]7[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]2[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]).

you would still have to bet there because if you make your draw you could lose your action.

This is true. I didn't mean to imply that you shouldn't bet here, just that in this case it is not necessary to protect anything. I guess the point is that unless you have a rather compelling reason to not bet the flop when you have made a hand, you should probably do so.

I would say a vast majority of the hands posted everyday have a part "protection" in them..Hand protection, value and pot control all play a part in every hand we play...It's very very difficult to seperate..
