Mike Wier getting picked really hurts the integrity of the whole thing, IMO.

I'll watch it if I'm around chillin, but I could care less who wins.

Because Gary Player only picked him to sell tickets. (For those who may not know, Weir is from Canada where the P Cup is being held this year) He's done nothing leading up to it to deserve a pick.

It's not really that big of a deal I guess, but he was givin a spot that others deserved more than him simply to generate more revenue/interest for the event.

Name players get picked all the time. It's not like the Captain's picks in the Ryder Cup or Presidents Cup are typically guys #11 and #12. Far from it.

Not this far from it.

EDIT: I'm open to hearing some about some past picks that are on the same level as this one. I can only think of Darren Clarke, but his wife died so that was much more understandable.
I'm still a young buck so my Ryder Cup knowledge only goes back so far. AFAIK this Weir pick is taking it to a new level, but I could be wrong.

Weir is #20 in the points. Heck, as recently as the 2006 Ryder Cup Lehman chose Verplank, also #20.

Players around 20th get chosen from Ryder/Presidents Cup teams nearly every year. Without checking numbers, captain's picks such as Couples and Floyd were well above 20th I believe. Nobody would ever question those guys.

Weir being chosen was no surprise regardless of where the event is being held.

Mike Weir is a Masters champion, how many winners of majors did Player have to pick from? I remember Floyd being picked for two Ryder cups in a row in the 90's and kicking ass with Freddy.

Weir will definitely get the crowd on the International side. Without a Canadian in the on the team I think half the crowd would have been cheering for the US.
