Anyone have management experience in the casino/resort industry?
I was wondering if anyone has experience working in some of the higher business positions at a casino/resort. I am pursuing a degree in Hotel, Restaurant, and Meetings Management right now and the goal is to start a career in the casino/resort industry after I graduate.
I have heard that most casinos like to promote from within. What entry level position could I hope to get with a hospitality degree? How fast does it take people to move up in the ranks? What are some of the starting annual salaries? And what do the higher ups on the management end of the casino make annually? I have done some research online, but would like to hear from someone who has personal experience in the industry. Its my dream to one day own/build my own casino, but am well aware that dream can only be obtained after a lot of time learning about the business. Thanks for any info you can give me. |

Re: Anyone have management experience in the casino/resort industry?
I didn't but my GF did. Shift manager is probably the best you will do , you should try to work at a restaurant or hotel first though to get your teeth cut. Casino Mgmt has a lot of turn over (1-3 years) with people moving on to other casinos etc so your chances to move up are good if you bust your nuts.

Just go to work for Harrah's. They have a habit of placing people with no casino experience in upper management positions.
