I capped the flop to make it seem like I was making some kind of dumb free card play/semibluff

does it look like that to anyone else?

That certainly wouldn't be my first thought. I think I call the turn and decide later if I wanna pull the trigger on a good river card.

my reasoning was that a mediocre TAG would expect me to call his 3bet and pop the turn with a strong hand

what is your reasoning for waiting until the river? there are going to be a ton of cards I won't like

can't think like a mediocre tag because i am a terrible lag.

Shoulda emphasized that I would only be raising the river a small fraction of the time based on timing tell or whatever.

If you are 100% positive that you can fold to a 3-bet then sure, go ahead and raise the turn. It's just that I usually don't play against people who would make me comfortable folding to a 3bet here.

I wouldnt think that atall unless i thought you were a total idiot, somebody who caps this flop usualy has some kind of made hand.

FWIW i think its close on the turn bewteen calling or folding, i think against most tags id prefer a call but as it played out id have folded the turn to his 3bet maybe thats a bit weak but i think its one of those situations where your either just infront or way behind think about it what could a tag be 3 betting you with on this turn that you have badly beaten ? and if you were ahead on the turn your beaten on that river for sure

oh and FWIW i think if he's the kinda player who would 3bet as a bluff or with something like top pair/trips with a big club kicker then id like to call and see the river but most tags dont fit that description

I think you're being results oriented here to say that it could be a fold. the pot is big and villain can have all sorts of overpair, overpair+fd, pair+fd, trips, maybe even strong combo draw.

I should have cut off the action after my turn raise, but I wanted to hear opinions on the river as well.

I think I should just do some stoving to figure out whether the turn is a raise
