Playing Poker with University as ISP
I can't get any poker site to work well. The connection is always sooo bad and so slow yet it is a 5 megabit connection. What is going on? It is resnet and I'm at the University of Western Ontario.

Re: Playing Poker with University as ISP
It's probably packet shaping. You'll find you won't get much of a connection for torrents or pirated music either.

It works best at West East Virginia Tech or South North Dakota State.

Re: Playing Poker with University as ISP
uhm the limit bandwidth on certain ports or something. like 5 yrs back at ucsb i had to email RESadmin and give him some info, you prolly have to email and ask if he will up bandwith, then email pokersite and ask all the ports Site runs or something. email both admin and pokersite to get going.

...and do make sure that this is a legal use of the university network. At many campi, playing games is fine, but use of university resources for personal financial gain is not - and you want to find out which side of that line you are on. (They are very unlikely to do anything to you if they think you're on the wrong side of it - but they arent likely to help fix your connection either.)

Re: Playing Poker with University as ISP
I lived in Saugeen a couple years ago and for the first couple weeks the internet was terrible, but eventually got faster. So I would suggest you just wait a bit and it will probably get better. In the mean time, go bang some frosh girls.
