Going to LA at the end of October. Not exactly a poker trip (bringing GF), but will try to get some hours in at Commerce/The Bike. But...
Long time no LA. To entertain GF, need some tips on restaurants, entertainment (other than poker), etc. We'll be staying in Santa Monica, and will have a car. All suggestions welcome. Thanks. |

1) Drive out to Malibu and eat at either the Greek restaurant there or Nobu.
2) See the Getty and Huntington Library in Pasadena. 3) In Santa Monica, eat at Sushi Roku, Boa steakhouse, or Melisse. 4) Take a stroll on 3rd Street. 5) Take the GF shopping at The Grove. |

I second the Getty and the restaurant recommendations. If you're a music lover like me, Amoeba on Sunset will be your mecca.

If you like wine, AOC on Third (not Third Street in Santa Monica). Great date spot, get reservations though.
Go to the Getty Museum in the morning/early afternoon. Bring a picnic, or eat at the excellent restaurant. |

If not Third Street in SM, which Third do you mean?

Yes, SM. There's a long thread in one of the other forums, can't remember which, perhaps El Diablo, on stuff to do in L.A.

Agree on The Getty Center (off of the 405, NOT the Getty Villa off of PCH). It's free admissions, all you pay is $5 for parking. Assuming you're in your 20's, here's a few more:
- Hollywood: Sunset and Hollywood Blvd are standards, but make it down to Melrose and check it out. - Pasadena (Old Town), Newport/Laguna areas, Santa Monica (3rd Street), Venice/Santa Monica Beach - Beverly Hills. - Do some online research for restaurants and bars. The above mentioned locations have a good concentration of night life, so it'll just depend on your taste and budget. |
