Default what kinds of boards do you raise continuation bets on?

a tag 20/16 raises in the co. You call in the button with any hand and have absolutely nothing on the flop.

Are you more likely to raise a continuation bet on

1)Boards villain is likely to have nothing on
2)Drawy boards villain is unlikely to have hit that give you a lot of bluff outs if called
3)dry boards villain is likely to have hit
4)drawy boards villain is not likely to have hit.

Would like to hear some reasoning.

also what kind of raise sizing are you making? min? pot? somewhere in between?

I like raising on dry boards but prefer floating more often than bluff raising on draw heavy flops.

You don't really need to raise that much on dry flops I don't think. Someone bets a J62 flop, 65 into 85, popping it to 160-170 should be more than enough to get them off of TT for example. If you're getting looked up in these spots you know you're either doing it to the wrong player or your bluff frequency is off.

On draw heavy boards I prefer floating but bluff raising is also fine. I float more often because when you raise on these flops you are basically representing a much narrower range of hands such as made sets and 2 pair - which are obviously hard and rare for you to hit. However if you just call you are representing a much wider range, basically tons of draws and mid strength made hands. Most of which you can very easily rep when certain cards pop out..

thanks corbin.

thdocta2,
by raising on draw heavy flops you can represent a wide range. Including strong made hands and drawing hands.

Often the abc response on a drawy board to having a cb raised for the following hands (for villain) is:

1) response for marginal hands is to call.
2) response for monsters is to 3bet.
3) response for draws is to call.
4) response for nothing is to fold.

This means that raising on draw heavy boards with any 2 is likely to get you either a call or a fold. If you get called you can frequently still win the pot when one of the draws comes down.

I think this is a very good thing.

You are right. But, when you can represent the same range of hands by flat calling, you keep the pot small and your bluffs cheap, which is a good thing as well. All in all I think both plays work as long as you balance how frequently you use them.
