Default Ddar?

Has anyone heard of this name? My internet research comes up empty. I ask, because the dog I brought home from the pound today was given this name by the people who dropped it off. Either that or the pound employees made a mistake.

I've been calling the dog by this name pronouncing each d. (duh dar) She responds, but that doesn't mean much. If it is a real word, I'd like to know the pronunciation and origin if anyone can help.

Never heard that one, but there's a pikey word for dog: 'ddook' (I think it's spelt like that) that's pronounced like a 'j', or like 'jook'.

So maybe it's like 'jar'?

PS. Just realised this sounds like 'Jah', the Rastafari word for God. And dog is God backwards, so that's cosmic. don't fight the cosmos.

'Dd' is a letter in the Welsh alphabet. It sounds like 'th' in this and there. So... Thar? Ddar is a form of an older Welsh word for oak, dar (feminine noun).

I was bored.

It may be related to Hebrew (ddar) Loose Definition = "Look".

Maybe they meant Dieter?

Edit: Maybe they're Yankees fans and called the dog Jeter?

If it responds when you say "duh-dar", then its name is "duh-dar". If it responds when you say "dar" then its name is dhar. If it does nothing when you say either of these things, then you should rename the dog.

I think you're overthinking this one. It is a dog after all. Just start calling the dog whatever you want, but be consistent with that one name (as opposed to "buddy," "puppy" etc). After a few weeks it will now respond to its new name =)

[/ QUOTE ]Absolutely. You rescued the dog; one of the perks is getting to pick the new name.

I just get a warm fuzzy feeling knowing that you adopted from the pound.
